The Aloha Exchange Club of East Hawaii saluted Officer Mark Arnold on Thursday as the East Hawaii Officer of the Month for May.

Arnold, a 16-year police vet- eran as- signed to the South Hilo Dis-trict, was honored for his investigation of a convicted felon sought for reckless endangering, driving stolen vehicles and violating terms of release on bail in a terroristic-threatening case.

“Officer Arnold showed the poise, knowledge and experience of the seasoned veteran that he is, while still crediting the rest of the unit’s members for their assistance,” wrote Sgt. James Correa in nomination papers. “Officer Arnold’s dedication to community was first and foremost in these investigations.”

Arnold now is eligible to be Officer of the Year.
